logrotate log spam: "error: error creating output file: FILE File exists"
We are periodically spammed by the kind of messages in subject.
I clean them up sporadically (usually with find /var/log -type f -empty -delete
), but it's to no avail. It reappears over and over again, drowning other interesting and useful log in this spam. It needs to stop.
I can imagine several fixes (the simplest would be to cron a find
like the above before logrotate kicks in). But maybe there's an Occaml solution to this: why do we still bother with logrotate, given we have journald everywhere? Shouldn't we just embrace it more and get rid of logrotate silliness? Let's discuss this, and decide how to get rid of this spam, one way or another.
